Pro Bono

Each year, we partner with a small number of mission-driven organizations to turn complex challenges into clear direction and practical progress — using data, analytics, and structured problem-solving.

XAL's Pro Bono Program

In our pro bono programme we seek to find solutions to interesting data science challenges together with problem owners using both classical methods and modern machine learning and data science techniques.

All our pro bono projects starts with a Stage 1: Exploration Sprint (75 hours).

If Stage 1 creates meaningful impact and there’s a strong fit, we may continue working with the project in a Stage 2: Impact Sprint.

What you get

  • A focused 75-hour collaboration to clarify the problem, explore opportunities, and deliver actionable insights or proof-of-concept work

  • Support from consultants experienced in analytics, data, and applied AI / modelling

  • A partnership mindset: we work with your team, not just “on” your problem

Who this is for

Organizations globally working on social or public-interest outcomes — for example:

  • Non-profits and NGOs

  • Foundations and social impact initiatives

  • Public sector teams and civic organizations

  • Mission-driven startups and scale-ups

Data Science

The program is well suited to challenges such as:

  • Exploratory data analysis

  • Advanced data modelling

  • Predictive ML/AI analysis

  • Feasability studies

  • Data visualization

  • Workflow automation

What we ask from applicants

You don’t need a fully defined technical plan — Stage 1 is designed for exploration. To apply, you should be able to share:

  • What you’re trying to achieve

  • What a “successful outcome” would look like

  • How the work could create social impact

  • Access to relevant data, systems, and/or materials at the start

  • Approval to write a case story about the project

  • Confirmation that your work complies with our ethical guidelines

Why we have this program

We believe our expertise and skills can create value beyond commercial work. This program helps us contribute to meaningful initiatives while also developing our consultants through real, high-impact problem solving.

How the process works

  1. Submit an application through the form

  2. Expert Analytics reviews applications for fit, feasibility, and potential impact

  3. Selected projects start with Stage 1: Exploration Sprint (75 hours) around September

  4. If Stage 1 creates meaningful value and there’s a strong fit, we may  continue working with the project in an expanded Impact Sprint

Applications

If your organization has a mission-driven challenge where data and structured problem solving could help, we’d love to hear from you.

Next application deadline: 1 July, 2026.
